Heron Hill Winery

Located in the Finger Lakes region (the most important out of the nine officially recognized viticulture areas in New York — the region’s cold climate is tempered by four large lakes ), Heron Hill Winery is one of the most highly acclaimed wineries in upstate New York. Having attended Cornell University I’ve had the chance to visit a number of Finger Lakes wineries and was very excited to have the opportunity to sample some of Heron Hill’s offerings.

Since its first vintage in 1977, Heron Hill Winery has steadily grown from a small 5,000 case winery that only made white wines into a 20,000 case production facility and entertainment destination for more than 50,000 people every year. The winery offers nearly 20 wine varieties including their winemaker’s specially crafted dessert wines.

Started by John Ingle, the winery is located on a hill with a panoramic view of Keuka Lake and they have two tasting rooms. Ingle’s winery maintains sustainable farming techniques — so much so in fact that Ingle was a featured speaker at the Green Symposium in New York City last year. Check-out their website for more and stay tuned this week for reviews of some of their wines!
